Growing up in the artsy town of Claremont, California, I was surrounded by talent and creativity on a daily basis. My parents owned a little craft store in Claremont (Craft Cottage) where I learned just about every craft you could imagine: tole painting, macramé, needlepoint, calligraphy, knitting, stitchery and more. But it was the ceramics class in High School that won my heart.
Many years later, after teaching school and raising 3 kids, I took a ceramics class at our local Community College here in New Mexico at the suggestion of a friend. That class started me on a wonderful journey of making fun pottery for friends and family. Now, with a studio in my own backyard, I am able to devote more time and expand my creativity.
Though I have always been partial to the wheel, I hand build some of my pottery as well. I work with all types of clay, but mostly porcelain and a special fiber clay made here in New Mexico. I prefer the simplicity and modern look of white glaze, with a splash of color every now and then.
